A note from the author.
If I've learned anything from years of sitting with parents in my therapy office, it's this: preparing for postpartum, but preparing for yourself as you transition to parenthood, is something so many people don't feel prepared for.
I've worked with so many parents who entered postpartum feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or convinced they were somehow doing it wrong. While preparation can't prevent every challenge, I've seen how it can help people meet postpartum with more self-compassion and less self-doubt.
Becoming a mom myself only deepened that belief.
My own pregnancy was incredibly challenging, and I often felt surrounded by messages that parenthood should feel joyful all the time, as if thriving meant I was somehow doing it wrong. Instead, I discovered something much more honest: just because parenthood is hard doesn't mean it needs to be miserable.
That realization changed the way I experienced postpartum, and it's the reason Tender Transitions: Postpartum Planning Workbook exists.

Most parents begin preparing during the second or third trimester, but there's no perfect time. Tender Transitions is designed to be completed at your own pace throughout pregnancy, and many parents continue using it during the early postpartum months as a companion and reflection tool. There’s no deadline and no right pace.

Childbirth classes do an excellent job preparing you for labor, delivery, and newborn care. Tender Transitions focuses on something equally important: preparing you. It helps you think about your recovery, emotional health, relationship, support system, and the practical realities of life after birth. The workbook is an excellent companion piece to the other baby prep you may be doing already

Not at all! While many first-time parents find it especially helpful, experienced parents often tell me they appreciate having dedicated space to prepare intentionally for a new postpartum experience. Every transition into parenthood is different.

Not at all. Tender Transitions isn't meant to become another task on your to-do list. Skip sections that aren't relevant, revisit pages whenever you need them, and use it in whatever way feels most supportive. Even completing a few sections can help you feel more prepared and compassionate toward yourself.
-
No. Tender Transitions is an educational and reflective resource, not therapy or medical treatment. If you're experiencing postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, trauma, or significant emotional distress, it's important to seek support from a qualified healthcare provider.
